Artificial Intelligence is one of the many boons of science and technology that has made life easier. Artificial intelligence refers to those machines that are programmed to mimic human action. They have entered all fields, including education and different types of artificial intelligence, have increased the standard of living.

Artificial Intelligence & It’s Types
  • Reactive machines:

As the name suggests, these machines depend on old and preliminary artificial intelligence that is entirely reactive. Since their function is not memory-based and their capacity is limited, these machine types deal with present instructions. These neither store data for future use nor react based on memory.

These machines are very similar to a human mind reacting to different stimuli at different times. IBM’s deep blue chess-playing computer is one best example of reactive machines.

It is known for winning a chess match against a world champion. Every move of the machines was a reciprocation of the opponent’s move.

  • Limited memory:

Machines with short-term memory come under this category. Unlike reactive machines, these machines can store necessary data from past usage but only for a short time. These machines have a limited information storage capacity that enables them to make appropriate predictions, like self-driving cars; based on the preferences of the previous drives, these can auto determine speed, location, and other things. Limited memory AI devices more useful for repetitive use compared to reactive machines.

These machines specialize in adapting the data input and making the experience better for the viewers supplementing it with past experiences. Though the memory is stored for a short while, these machines can make better and improved decisions.

  • Theory of mind:

An advanced form of artificial intelligence that understands human emotions and can interact like actual human beings. Though such devices have not been prepared sill now, the effort and progress of the inventors make us believe that day is not far away, when this technology will be the next step of artificial intelligence. In the future, when AI machines will be able to walk amongst us and mimic human action and emotion, this will be helpful.

There is a belief that a robot built with this type of artificial intelligence can express its own emotions since it will consist of Machine Learning or ML that will help it express feelings in a language that is comprehensible to human beings.

  • Self-awareness:

Intelligent machines with their awareness and consciousness are the future of AI. Although it is a hypothetical concept, experts believe that these AI machines will be sophisticated than the human mind. Machines with self-awareness will be an extension of the ‘Theory of Mind’ concept. Self-aware AI not only expresses its own emotions and sentiments but also predicts the same for others.

Its ability to react to different situations will make it unique and immensely complex to develop. It requires a deep understanding of consciousness on the developer’s part to build a machine with such intelligence.

  • Narrow AI:

Narrow AI or weak AI is programmed to perform single tasks, and Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI) has maximum usage. Some best examples of ANI are virtual assistants, include the Chatbot and other things. The API or Application Programming Interface of which enables these to perform goal-oriented specified tasks smoothly. Some machines built with ANI, such as self-driving cars, facial recognition, and speech recognition, can perform tasks following voice commands.

Since ANI is there to complete specified tasks, they may not work beyond their limitations. It can fail and become unpredictable if the task is beyond its limitations. Hence the word weak is used to describe this AI.

  • General AI:

Human intelligence, like artificial intelligence in machines, is still not a reality. But people are constantly striving for the best to develop a device that will efficiently perform any intellectual task just like a human. It will be a thinking machine with its understanding. It also aims to build a machine with critical thinking skills. The human brain will be the reference point behind building this AI-supported brain. Hence, it will have a memory similar to that of a human brain.

  • Super AI:

It will be one step ahead of the AGI or Artificial General Intelligence. Superintelligence is a hypothetical agent meant to surpass the human intelligence of even the brightest human minds in every aspect. There is a hypothesis that such machines can complete challenging tasks better than a human, based on their ability to think and reasoning skills. Its ability will include learning, communicating, problem-solving, and judging without external interference like self-aware machines.

Machine making everyday tasks easier following verbal instructions is no longer a distant dream. Thanks to the different types of artificial intelligence, various works, including driving a car, playing games, shopping, and others, can now be carried out with zero involvement of humans. Along with its daily applications, these are also helpful in correcting human errors and are available for 24/7 assistance. The innovations are adding another feather to the cap.

AI’s Best Usage in Academic Front

Some of AI’s best uses have become more evident in the field of education. For example, Machine learning in the education field is a notable contribution of AI that has opened up new revenues for students. It has taken teaching-learning to a whole new level bringing about a much-required change in this field.

Similarly, AI-based software such as the Copyleaks plagiarism checker also plays a significant role on the academic front. It does not just produce a result in real-time, but their report is so accurate that students or unethical writers will not pass away easily by using hidden and special characters in their copy. AI-based plagiarism will easily catch them.

Apart from using it for plagiarism checking, it can also provide gradation to the students. The Copyleaks AI-grading tool has recently proved that AI can smoothly check and grade student’s academic papers. Thus, reducing the burden of the teachers and educators by making their task of grading the test papers a smooth process. Artificial intelligence is a breakthrough in the field of science and technology. People were skeptical at first about its ability to think like a human, learn, and problem-solving skills. But it is believed that in the coming years’ machines will effectively exceed human performance in their ability to accomplish more tasks.
