Did a plagiarism scandal cost ‘True Detective’ at the Emmy Awards?

“True Detective”, one of the most talked about shows of the year, lost out on all the main categories it was nominated for in the 2014 Emmy Awards, including Best Actor for both Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. A possible reason to this surprising loss could be the recent allegations of plagiarism against the show’s writer, Nic Pizzolatto.

Pizzolatto is accused of allegedly plagiarizing and paraphrasing from a work called “The Conspiracy against the Human Race” by horror writer Thomas Ligotti. In a statement Pizzplatto stated that the show is completely original and no plagiarism was involved, a statement that was backed up by HBO.

It is worth mentioning the timing of this story, right before the Emmys with True Detective as one of the most promising contender, including best drama series and best writing .It is still unclear whether the allegations are true or not but it is safe to say that the timing seems a  bit suspicious.
