Sony Corporation might get sued for copyright infringement in ‘The Interview’

Sony Interview

North Korea’s threats are not the only risk Sony Corporation has to deal with because of the movie “The Interview”. Another threat comes from the K-pop singer Yoon Mi-rae, who claims that Sony used her song “Pay Day” in the movie illegally.

The singer states that Sony Corporation did approach her to try and get the rights to use the song in the movie but no contract was signed. Sony released the movie, with the song in it, online and in independent theatres on Christmas day.

“There were initial discussions for using ‘Pay Day’ in the movie, but at some point, the discussions ceased and we assumed that it would not follow through,” the singer’s representatives told Soompi.com. “However, after the movie was released, we learned that the track had been used without permission, legal procedure or contracts.”

Copyright claims is not the only trouble Sony is facing with the movie “The Interview”. Sony was also the victim of a cyberattack and threats from terrorists groups in North Korea to retaliate over the movie’s release. Sony’s decision to cancel the movie’s release was criticized by President Barack Obama.
